About the Job:

Act as a user interface (UI) designer / front end web developer for KeyCorps websites and web-based applications. Responsible for system analysis, programming and website functionality as well as visual look & feel of medium to large projects including visual design, strategy, information architecture and interaction design. Collaborate with stakeholders, content editors, product managers, and marketing to create and execute an exceptional online experience. Excellent HTML, CSS, and JavaScript skills as well as strong abilities in web design.

Essential Job Functions:

Technical

  • Hand-code HTML, CSS, and JavaScript in compliance with W3C web standards which requires understanding of current browser technologies.  Proficient with XML / XSLT.  Familiarity with JSPs, object-oriented programming, databases and project development methodologies is a plus.

  • Create and translate design comps and prototypes into production-quality templates, with a focus on long-term adaptability of solution.

  • Function as site administrator for best of breed web content management system.

  • Proactively search for opportunities to increase efficiencies to our websites and web-based applications (i.e., separate form from function, increase reusability).

  • Create and maintain decisioning tools and financial calculators.

  • Manage internal site search application (UltraSeek) and branch locator technology (Mappoint) and proactively enhance functionality.

Design / Usability:

  • Apply Human Computer Interaction principles, graphic design principles, UI best practices, and W3C web accessibility and technology guidelines to develop project artifacts including navigation maps, wire frames, detailed mock-us, functional specifications and UI prototypes.

  • Have a firm grasp of: Common cross-browser design and layout differences; the difference and limitations of designing for mobile; SEO / SEM best practices and how technology can help / hinder rankings; integration of Key sites with existing social media platforms.

Communications

  • Proactively lead the web functionality work for projects, partnering with the key.com team, lines of business (LOB), support and back-end development teams to identify and document online business solutions.  Build relationships with partners to understand and gather business requirements, translate those requests into wireframes and mock-ups, communicate testing schedules and success criteria, and build front end User Interface.

  • Act as a consultant, providing recommendations to clients and partners surrounding their online needs.  Effectively and professionally communicate the recommendations to partners and clients, managing relationships at all levels of the organization.

General

  • Conduct industry research and stay current on best practices, competitor user interface designs, and emerging technologies and proactively share with wth peers.

  • Ability to effectively support multiple priorities, clients, and businesses

  • Assertively prioritize and negotiate requests

  • Support and train with the systems/software tools provided by vendors

  • Proactively work with technical teams to ensure that system designs meet or exceed LOB needs

  • Perform application testing as new features / enhancements are added

  • Participate in system / website testing as needed

  • Provide coaching / mentoring to peers on technical issues

  • Proactively seek out and drive issues / defects to resolution

  • Supports multiple sub-lines of business

Required Qualifications

  • BS/BA in computer science or design or equivalent experience 5 to 7 years of experience as a Front End Web Developer

  • 5 to 7 years of HTML, CSS and JavaScript experience

  • Strong understanding of the principles of visual and graphic design, including how these are impacted by page layout, typography, color and icon selections, information architecture, interaction design, communication design, usability and accessibility

  • Must have strong aesthetic skills, creative problem solving and be able to create effective site navigation

  • Proficient using XML / XSLT, common JavaScript libraries (jQuery, MooTools, Prototype), MS Office, Photoshop and/or Fireworks, Illustrator, FTP, PVCS, Flash (Actionscript)

  • Experience designing GUI's for complex applications, not just website design.

  • Familiarity with using in-browser web development tools like Firebug and IE 8s Web Development tools.

  • Working knowledge and understanding of web-based technologies like HTML5, CSS3, JSON, JSPs and ASP.NET.

  • Familiarity working with and extending Omniture a plus.

  • Project management skills, ability to effectively manage and execute numerous projects simultaneously with minimal supervision.

  • Strong leadership experience, leading and driving projects while consulting clients along the way.

  • Finds ways to extend and apply innovative online ideas to enhance business results.

  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.

  • Ability to multi-task and establish personal objectives to meet defined deadlines.

  • Interest in and aptitude for understanding the business with a positive `can-do attitude.

  • Ability to take initiative, negotiate effectively and build productive relationships with business partners.

  • Knowledge of industry online best practices, web standards and cross browser issues.

  • Builds strong relationships with business partners to understand business needs.

  • Effectively communicate with a variety of audiences and management levels, ability to translate business requirements into technical requirements.

  • Participates in strategic planning.
